principalmente en la calidad del aire debido a las altas concentraciones de contaminantes;
Rinofaringitis aguda (resfriado común), Bronquitis aguda y enfermedad pulmonar
Abstract
Bogota is one of the cities with the greatest environmental pollution problems, mainly in air
quality due to high concentrations of pollutants; For this research, the concentrations of
PM10 and PM2.5 were taken into account, since studies have shown that being constantly
exposed to these pollutants can affect health. This work aims to evaluate the association
between poor air quality events in Bogotá and the incidence in the number of hospitalizations
for respiratory diseases. To develop the methodology, data was obtained from the Bogota air
quality monitoring network, from the Bogotá Environment Secretariat for the years 2022,
2021 and 2020, to later carry out a spatial and temporal analysis through analysis of data,
using the Google Collab tool and the Python programming language; For the spatial and
temporal analysis of respiratory diseases, a confidential database of the Secretary of Health
corresponding to the first semester of 2021 was used, following all the ethical aspects for its
use, of hospital cases of respiratory diseases such as: Acute rhinopharyngitis (common cold),
Acute bronchitis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Regarding the results and
analysis of the first objective, it was identified that the year with the highest concentration of
PM10 and PM2.5 of the three years under study was 2022, later it was recognized that in the
southwest of Bogotá is where there is the highest concentration of PM10 and PM2.5, due to
the influence of emission sources such as industrial and mobile sources; In relation to the
results and analysis obtained from the second objective, it was evidenced that for acute
bronchitis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, the month with the lowest incidence
of hospital cases was February and the month with the highest incidence of hospital cases
was April, compared to Regarding acute bronchitis (common cold), it was determined that
the month with the lowest incidence of hospital cases was February and the month with the
highest incidence of hospital cases was May. Finally, when comparing the incidence of
respiratory diseases with the levels of PM10 and PM2.5, it is evident that in the first quarter
13
of the year the concentrations of particulate matter are high and the cases of the mentioned
respiratory diseases are low and in the second quarter of the year the concentrations drop and
the cases increase, therefore, it was concluded that the high concentrations of PM10 and
PM2.5 are in the southwest of the city, where the highest incidence of the respiratory diseases
under study is also found, that is to say that , exposure to particulate matter does not directly
cause respiratory diseases, but it does enhance them the longer the exposure time.
