During the last decades, the cesarean section rate has increased considerably, generating a significant impact on the social, health and international economy. It is estimated that the progressive increase is due to socioeconomic, demographic and medical-surgical factors, with a rate of 39.6% in 2014 (3), which is much higher than the WHO recommended rate of 10-15% ,(1)(2). Some countries around the world have become aware of this problem, and have chosen to seek strategies for the regulation of the cesarean rate, as in the case of Brazil with the "Appropriate Childbirth Project" (PPA) or with the "Cesarean Reduction" (CARE) project in Canada (4). Throughout this literature review, we will describe some current considerations on cesarean delivery and the strategies that have been used with their effectiveness in the different settings described, as well as the roles of health personnel and the monetary management of health services.
