dc.description.abstractenglish | Introduction: Preterm birth is a significant public health issue worldwide, with important implications for both newborns and mothers. The World Health Organization estimates that around 15 million premature babies are born annually, making it the leading cause of neonatal mortality and mortality in children under five years of age. This phenomenon presents a series of medical, social, and economic challenges, making it essential to understand the underlying factors contributing to its occurrence. In addition to the immediate health consequences for newborns, preterm birth can also have long-term repercussions, including physiological alterations, compromised neurodevelopment, and various complications. Methodology: This study will use a retrospective case-control design to investigate the association between various risk factors and the prevalence of preterm birth. Cases will be preterm newborns, defined as those born before 37 weeks of gestation, while controls will be full-term newborns. Sociodemographic, obstetric, medical, and environmental data will be collected from the participants' medical records and analyzed to identify possible risk factors associated with preterm birth. Expected Results: This study is expected to provide a deeper understanding of the risk factors contributing to preterm birth. The results obtained will allow for the identification of possible preventive interventions and prenatal care measures to reduce the incidence of preterm birth and improve neonatal and maternal outcomes.
