dc.description.abstractenglish | Palliative care has become a crucial aspect of health care, focusing not only on relieving symptoms but also on improving the quality of life of patients with terminal conditions. Working with the community is important because it allows us to understand and address the points of view of the people involved. In this way, it is possible to propose strategies that contribute to improving performance, reducing costs, and promoting access to palliative care. This paper aims to explore community-based participatory research approaches and experiences in palliative care in the published literature of the last 10 years. EBSCO Host, ScienceDirect, Embase, PubMed, ProQuest One Academic, and Google Scholar databases were searched, with the following search descriptors: (“Palliative Therapy” OR “palliative care” AND “Community-Based Participatory Research”), (“Palliative Therapy” OR “palliative care” AND “Community-Based Research”). A total of 191 articles were found, of which 17 were selected for review. The review results show that the systematic search identified 191 articles, of which 17 were included, covering a decade of studies (2013-2023) in six countries. The studies, mostly qualitative (13), focused on participatory research and palliative care and included rural and urban populations, the elderly, cancer patients, and indigenous communities. Triangulation of data through methods such as social mapping, interviews, surveys, and randomized clinical trials strengthened the validity of the findings and demonstrated a rigorous and tailored approach to the population's needs. Over the past decade, there has been an increase in the use of research methods that emphasize the importance of community involvement, particularly in the area of health. Community-based participatory research (CBPR) has surpassed traditional approaches in its ability to involve communities in all study phases, ensuring that results are more relevant and tailored to local needs. Unlike traditional methods that impose external agendas, CBPR builds trust, collaboration, and sustainability of results. In conclusion, communities' active involvement in the design and implementation of palliative care interventions is essential to achieving more effective, equitable, and accessible care. Close collaboration and respect for cultural diversity enable a better understanding of needs, increasing satisfaction and access to care. This approach also identifies specific barriers and provides benefits for both the community and researchers.
