This literature review aims to analyze proposals from various authors to understand the determinant role of economic, demographic, and political factors in worldwide cereal imports. The methodology involved an extensive search on renowned platforms such as Scopus and Taylor & Francis, followed by a rigorous process of selection and analysis of the obtained articles. Factors influencing cereal imports are examined from different perspectives, with findings indicating a significant effect of economic, demographic, and political variables in various contexts. However, the magnitude and direction of these effects vary depending on each country's specific characteristics, adopted trade policies, and dynamics of the global market. The complexity of these factors, including GDP, exchange rate, prices, production, trade agreements, and population growth, is highlighted, emphasizing the need for a multidimensional approach to comprehend the dynamics of international cereal trade.
