Resumen
Este texto recorre la historia del pensamiento y la ciencia occidentales para justificar la necesidad de una nueva filosofía de la naturaleza que nos permita entender nuestro papel en un universo impredecible, rico en potencialidades que se ponen de manifiesto en la gran diversificación e integración de las formas existentes. Las ideas de los antiguos griegos sobre la materia y la vida, los sistemas de Leibniz y Kant, la controversia Lamarck-Darwin, la termodinámica de los sistemas jerárquicamente organizados, ciertas interpretaciones de la mecánica cuántica, y la llamada “ley de la mente” de Peirce son algunos de los hitos que el autor analiza a la luz de un concepto de información del cual resalta los aspectos semánticos y pragmáticos. Su propuesta apunta a interpretar el universo y los subsistemas que lo conforman como agencias captadoras, creadoras, procesadoras y usuarias de información, en un entramado más o menos armonioso de correspondencias funcionales. A la vez, invita a entender lo humano como una ocurrencia circunscrita a un espacio y tiempo delimitados en los que participamos, para bien y para mal, de la dinámica creadora de un universo multiforme.

Abstract
This text reviews the history of Western thought and science to justify the need for a new philosophy of nature that allows us to understand our role in an unpredictable universe, rich in potentialities that are revealed in the great diversification and integration of existing forms. The ideas of the ancient Greeks on matter and life, Leibniz’ and Kant’s systems, the Lamarck-Darwin controversy, the thermodynamics of hierarchically organized systems, certain interpretations of quantum mechanics, and Pierce’s so-called “law of mind” are some of the milestones that the author analyzes in the light of a concept of information from which he highlights the semantic and pragmatic aspects. His proposal aims to interpret the universe and the subsystems that make it up as agencies that capture, create, process and use information, in a more or less harmonious framework of functional correspondences. At the same time, it invites us to understand the human as an occurrence circumscribed to a limited space and time in which we participate, for better or for worse, in the creative dynamics of a multiform universe.
