The main objective of this research work was to define the environmental management strategy for the process of recovery of biogas, generated in the municipality of Bucaramanga (Santander), for the closure phase of the El Carrasco landfill. It began with the environmental diagnosis of the current status of the filling, by collecting primary information supplied by the Bucaramanga Toilet Company (EMAB) as well as secondary, for which theories were taken into account such as the implications of methane gas and the theoretical yields of biogas from the disposed solid waste, in this diagnosis the variables that allowed to calculate the generation and recovery of biogas were established using the model of the EPA US called "Colombian model of biogas", which established an efficiency of the catch system of 52%, a generation of biogas of 555 m3/hr and a recovery of 551 m3/hr by 2019, as well as the maximum capacity of the 0,9 MW power plant. These results allowed to establish 2 strategies focused on the fulfillment of the proposed objectives to give an energetic use to the biogas and to mitigate the socioenvironmental impact on the population next to the filling.
