Employment situation in Colombia according to the sexual orientation of employed people

| dc.description | This study seeks to analyze how sexual orientation affects the probability of employment of people in Colombia based on the 2022 Great Integrated Households Survey. To determine the portion of the gap attributable to discrimination based on sexual orientation, the probability of employment previously estimated from probit models is decomposed using the Oaxaca-Ransom and Yun methods. The incidence of informal employment is higher among people sexually diverse. On average, remuneration is higher and less dispersed among cis heterosexual men; for cis women there are no differences compared to their homosexual counterparts. The unemployment rate among heterosexuals is 4 percentage points lower, except for heterosexual women. The differential in favor of heterosexuals could be even worse if there were no advantages in some job characteristics in the sexually diverse group of people, such as education. The population with diverse sexuality faces spaces with behaviors that create an exclusionary labor market structure. Generally speaking, the observed differences in the probability of access to the labor market have a significant component attributable to unobserved factors, including discrimination. There is no evidence of double discrimination based on origin, ethnicity, or peasant status. This situation occurs in Colombia despite the existence of public policies aimed at reducing the inequality gaps due to discrimination in all areas, including the workplace. | en-US |
| dc.description | Este estudio busca analizar cómo la orientación sexual incide en la probabilidad de empleo de las personas en Colombia haciendo uso de la Gran Encuesta Integrada de Hogares 2022. A fin de determinar la porción de la brecha atribuible a discriminación por orientación sexual, la probabilidad de empleo previamente estimada a partir de modelos probit se descompone usando los métodos de Oaxaca-Ransom y Yun. La incidencia de empleo informal es mayor entre personas con sexualidad diversa. En promedio, las remuneraciones son mayores y menos dispersas entre hombres cis heterosexuales, mientras que en mujeres cis no se observan diferencias con respecto a su contraparte homosexual. La tasa de desempleo entre heterosexuales es 4 puntos porcentuales inferior, excepto en mujeres. El diferencial a favor de los heterosexuales podría ser incluso peor de no existir cierta ventaja en algunas características laborales en el grupo de personas sexualmente diversas, como por ejemplo la educación. La población con sexualidad diversa se enfrenta a espacios con conductas que crean una estructura de mercado laboral excluyente. En términos generales, las diferencias observadas en la probabilidad de acceso al mercado laboral tienen un importante componente atribuible a factores no observados, incluyendo la discriminación. No se encuentra evidencia de doble discriminación por origen, etnia o condición de campesino. | dc.description | Este estudo busca analisar como a orientação sexual afeta a probabilidade de emprego das pessoas na Colômbia por meio da Grande Pesquisa Integrada de Domicílios 2022. Para determinar a parcela da lacuna atribuível à discriminação por orientação sexual, a probabilidade de emprego previamente estimada a partir do probit modelos, ele é decomposto usando os métodos Oaxaca-Ransom e Yun. A incidência de emprego informal é maior entre pessoas com sexualidade diversa. Em média, os salários são mais elevados e menos dispersos entre os heterossexuais, com exceção das mulheres, nas quais não se observam diferenças em relação aos seus homólogos homossexuais. A taxa de desemprego entre os heterossexuais é 4 pontos percentuais inferior, com exceção das mulheres heterossexuais. O diferencial a favor dos heterossexuais poderia ser ainda pior se não houvesse certa vantagem em algumas características profissionais, como a escolaridade, no grupo de pessoas sexualmente diversas. A população sexualmente diversificada enfrenta espaços com comportamentos que criam uma estrutura exclusiva de mercado de trabalho. Em termos gerais, as diferenças observadas na probabilidade de acesso ao mercado de trabalho têm uma componente importante atribuível a factores não observados, incluindo a discriminação. Não há provas de dupla discriminação com base na origem, etnia ou estatuto de camponês.
