dc.description.abstract	Introducción La infección urinaria en niños es una patología muy común hasta 5% de la consulta de urgencias. Su método diagnóstico (patrón de oro) es el urocultivo, pero demora entre 24-72 horas. Debido a esto se han diseñado otras pruebas también efectivas para diagnosticar esta patología pero con menor tiempo de diagnóstico como el VITEK. Se propone comparar ambas pruebas diagnósticas. Metodología Se realizó un estudio de pruebas diagnósticas incluyendo todas las muestras recolectadas entre Julio y Septiembre 2012 en una institución de cuartonivel. Se descartaron aquellas muestras contaminadas. Resultados La sensibilidad del VITEK fue 83.5%, la especificidad fue 96.5%, siendo la sensibilidad del urocultivo convencional 95% y su especificidad de 85%. El valor predictivo positivo es 75,8% y el valor predictivo negativo fue 95,8%, para el urocultivo convencional el valor predictivo positivo es de 90% y valor predictivo negativo de 98%. Discusión La prueba VITEK presenta buenos resultados y altamente confiable con una ligera mayor especificidad comparado con el patrón de oro para el diagnóstico de infección de vías urinarias, minimizando el tiempo de diagnóstico, lo cual hace más oportuno la escogencia del antibiótico adecuado. El valor predictivo positivo y el valor predictivo negativo son menor en la variación en la técnica, pero no se estudiaron teniendo en cuanta el recuento de unidades formadoras de colonias en este estudio.	spa
dc.description.abstractenglish	Introduction Urinary tract infection in children is a common disorder in children, its frecuency is up to 5% of the emergency admissions. The gold standard for the diagnosis is an urine culture, but it takes 24-72 hours to get a result. Because of this there have been other tests discovered to diagnose this disorder in aeffective way but with less time as the VITEK. We propose to compare both diagnostic tests. Methodology We performed a study comparing both tests, including all samples collected between July and September 2012 in a tertiary institution. Those contaminated samples were discarded. Results The sensitivity of the VITEK was 83.5%, specificity was 96.5%. The gold standar shows a sensibility of 95% and specificity of 85%. The positive predictive value was 75,8% and the negative predictive value was 95,8% of the VITEK, meanwhile the urine culture shows a positive predictive value of 90% and negative predictive value of 98%. Discussion The VITEK test shows good results and highly reliable, with a slighter higher specificity compared with the gold standard for the diagnosis of urinary tract infection, minimizing the time of diagnosis, which makes easier to choose the most appropriate antibiotic.The positive predictive value and negative predictive value are less in the vitek test, but those were not studied counting the colony forming units.	eng
