Resumen
The project “Máquina despinadora y deshojadora de rosas” focuses on improving the ergonomic, functional, and sustainable conditions of the post-harvest process in the Colombian floriculture sector. Through field observation, ergonomic assessment, and digital simulations, the study identified repetitive movements, physical fatigue, and inefficiencies in manual despinning and defoliation tasks.
The design process was developed under the principles of Human-Centered Design, Biodesign, and Research Through Design, resulting in two proposals: an initial mechanical version and a second, more advanced version with technological integration. The final prototype includes a rotary loading system for 120 stems, automated measurement through optical sensors, a digital classification interface, and a waste management unit for composting and circular production.
Results demonstrate that the redesigned system reduces operator effort, improves posture, increases processing efficiency, and minimizes waste generation. The project evidences the role of industrial design as a mediator between technology, user well-being, and environmental sustainability in the floriculture industry.

Results demonstrate that the redesigned system reduces operator effort, improves posture, increases processing efficiency, and minimizes waste generation. The project evidences the role of industrial design as a mediator between technology, user well-being, and environmental sustainability in the floriculture industry.
