dc.description.abstractenglish | Introduction: Adolescence is a critical stage marked by significant physiological and psychological changes that can increase stress and lead to psychological maladjustments. Among these maladjustments, non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) emerges as a growing concern, particularly between the ages of 11 and 15. This study aims to explore the prevalence of NSSI in adolescents and its relationship with mood disorders, contributing to the understanding of these behaviors and their impact on public health. Methodology: A cross-sectional study was conducted with adolescents, applying the Spanish Validation Scale of the Self-Harm Questionnaire to detect the presence of self-injurious behaviors and evaluate their association with mood disorders. This methodology allowed for an efficient and low-cost data collection, offering a preliminary perspective on the prevalence and characteristics of NSSI in the studied population. Result: The study found a high prevalence of non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) among hospitalized adolescents, with 75% of cases using cutting as the primary method. Additionally, a strong psychiatric comorbidity was identified, with a second diagnosis present in 67% of the cases, most commonly mood and anxiety disorders. These findings highlight the need for comprehensive approaches in the prevention and treatment of NSSI, addressing both self-injurious behaviors and underlying mental disorders. This underscores the importance of personalized interventions and increased awareness and support in the public health sector.
