Abstract

It is pertinent to do this investigation because many artists are in conflict and they do not realize that theatrical genres are similar and have a lot of things in common. In this case, i compered musical theater and epic theater, in order to develop arguments that instruct artists to clarify the concept of both types of theater and the possible relationship between them, base d on “La ópera del malandro” a Latin-American play inspired by the epic play “The three penny opera” by Bertolt Brecht, who had initially been based on “The beggar’s Opera” one of the first musical play in history. The interesting thing about this Project is that this different plays tend to have the same objective: tell a story that make people think and feel emotions. Therefore, I hope this investigation leaves a legacy to students and artists, where they not only learn acting, performing and express messages through their bodies, but also be capable to question themselves, and establish their own point of view about theater and life. This method makes a direct appeal to the society in which we live and manages in most cases to expand their knowledge of our student community because according to Brecht (1930) “Art is not a mirror to reflect reality but a hammer to shape it”.
