Risk factors for stroke in older than 18 years - Narrative review cases and controlsspa
Objective: To identify risk factors for cerebrovascular accident (Stroke) in a population over 18 years of age Materials and methods: The work was carried out through a narrative review of clinical articles (cases and controls), found in databases such as PUBMED, with which it is possible to identify the risk factors for stroke in the elderly population. Results: The main risk factors were hypertension, evaluated in 34.7% of articles (8 articles) with a range of OR: 1.48 - 21. 48 (O> 2 = 87.5%). The following risk factors that were most reported were diabetes and smoking, each with 30.4% (7 articles) and a range of OR between 1.54 - 7.58 and 1.15 - 4.42 respectively (OR> 2 = 57.1%), same was evidenced that bipolar disorder OR 2.23 IC 95% 1.06 - 4.67, unipolar depression OR 2.15 IC 95% 1.62 - 2.86, anxiety disorders OR 2.63 IC 95% 1.87 - 3.69, alcohol abuse disorders OR 2.86 IC 95% 1.79 - 4.57, the presence of polymorphisms in genes such as GRAM with an OR 1.20 IC 95% 1.10 - 1.31, GRS with an OR 1.20 IC 95% 1.01 - 1.41, LOX 1 gene presenting an OR of 1.5 IC 95% 1.11 - 2.03 and finally Polymorphisms of the LXR gene were described with an OR 1.60 IC 95% 1.15 - 2.22. Conclusion: The main risk factors commonly described in the literature, such as hypertension, smoking, diet, regular physical activity, diabetes antecedent or HgbA> 6.5%, alcohol consumption, cardiac causes, psychosocial factors, obesity and dyslipidemia, were ratified. , and little-described but statistically significant factors were identified, such as the presence of genetic polymorphisms in the GRAM, GRS, LOX 1 and MAFB genes, and to have psychiatric disorders, such as bipolar disorder, unipolar depression, anxiety disorder, mental disorders and Alcohol abuse.spa
