La forma en la que Carlos Emilio Campos “Campitos” ha sido obviado de la historia del teatro es tan solo un ejemplo de la identidad teatral que todavía no se ha terminado de constituir en Colombia y de la negligencia histórico-cultural que ha marcado desde siempre a nuestro país. Para encontrar las razones por las que este actor, director y representante del sainete político de la primera mitad del siglo XX se ha convertido en un anónimo, se hace un breve recorrido por su vida temprana, seguida por su variada trayectoria laboral que lo llevó a involucrarse orgánicamente en la escena, teniendo en cuenta además las circunstancias en las que se encuentra el país entre los años 1940 y 1980 aproximadamente. Finalmente, se hace un acercamiento que permite identificar los elementos que fueron transformando las formas de entretenimiento de ese entonces, como lo es la aparición de la televisión y el advenimiento del llamado Nuevo Teatro Colombiano, que terminan siendo ingredientes contundentes para moldear el teatro que les precedió y que a su vez, constituyen en gran parte el arte escénico de la actualidad.

Abstract
The way Carlos Emilio Campos "Campitos" has been obviated from the history of theater is just an example of the theatrical identity that hasn´t been constituted in Colombia yet and the historical and cultural negligence that has marked our country. To find the reasons why this actor, director and representative of the political Sainete of the first half of the twentieth century has become anonymous, we make a brief tour, starting with his early life and then for his varied career, that led him to get involved organically in the scene, considering at the same time the circumstances of the country between 1940 and 1980 approximately. Finally, we make an approach that allow us to identify the elements that were transforming the forms of entertainment of that time, such as television and the New Colombian Theater, that actually became in forceful ingredients to mold the theater of the past and indeed, the scenic art of today.
