Etnografía de la enfermedad terminal : experiencias liminales y cuidado paliativo

Resumen

Realicé una etnografía de la experiencia liminal de la enfermedad terminal de Jaime Eliécer Garzón Gaitán ‒nombre encubierto‒, quien estuvo los últimos 20 días de su vida en un hospital de cuarto nivel en Bogotá por cáncer y falleció en abril de 2018. El objetivo de esta investigación es comprender, desde el contextualismo radical, el campo en el cual sucede la atención del enfermo terminal y cómo sus interacciones afectan su experiencia, con el fin de hacer una reflexión crítica al cuidado paliativo, como aporte a su mejoramiento.

Abstract

I made an ethnography of Jaime Eliécer Garzón Gaitán´s terminal illness liminal experience, –covered name–, who was hospitalized the last 20 days of his life in a fourth-level hospital in Bogotá for cancer and died in April 2018. The goal of this research is to understand, from the radical contextualism, the field in which the attention of the terminally ill happens and how their interactions affected his experience, in order to give a critical reflection on palliative care, as a contribution to improvement.
