    This thesis is presented as a requirement to obtain the title of Specialist in University Teaching at the Faculty of Education of El Bosque University. This paper presents an exploratory characterization of the teachinglearning process of biomechanics carried out in the context of the Orthodontics specialization of the Fundación CIEO-UniCIEO. The processes that define the objectives and direct the investigation are the following: knowledge required for the teaching of the discipline, used methodologies, strengths and difficulties identified by the actors in relation to teaching and learning processes. This research is framed within the historical-hermeneutic paradigm and is a qualitative exploratory study. The data collection tool is the semi-structured interview, with questions validated by an expert in university education. The type of sampling is intentional (not probabilistic): three (3) teachers and three (3) students. The interviews are submitted to the inductive coding and categorization process from which the following emerged: five (5) deductive categories, (15) inductive categories and (36) inductive sub-categories. The categories and subcategories are defined in the context of the research and used to shape the semantic structures that describe the teaching-learning process. The categorization is triangulated with the theory and the perspective of the researcher in order to build conceptualizations (inferences), conclusions and possibilities for improvement. One of the most relevant findings of the study is the disconnection between the theory of biomechanics and clinical practice, which could be improved with some modifications in the curriculum.
