Materials and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out, based on the Health Situation Analysis (ASIS) methodology, collecting information from national statistical sources and carried out in accordance with the tabulation list for infant and childhood mortality. The variables were processed in Microsoft Excel and their respective analysis was performed. Statistical techniques: The data was exposed through the statistical techniques of bar graphs and line graphs. Results: Infant mortality in the Chocó has remained high with respect to the national average for more than 10 years, which is indicative of the presence of inequities in terms of social determinants in the country. Conclusions: Social determinants have a negative impact the mortality rate of children under 5 years of age in the department of Chocó. We believe that more effort is needed to reduce the overflowing numbers of the infant mortality indicators.
