Conocimientos, actitudes y prácticas sobre el hábito de fumar en estudiantes de Optometría de la Universidad El Bosque 2017

Resumen
Objetivos: Identificar los conocimientos, actitudes y prácticas sobre el hábito de fumar en estudiantes de optometría de la Universidad El Bosque. Materiales y métodos: Estudio de corte transversal, descriptivo, realizado por medio de una encuesta anónima y voluntaria, entregada a 192 estudiantes de la Universidad El Bosque del programa de Optometría, y que incluyó preguntas referentes a conocimientos, actitudes y prácticas de los estudiantes en relación con el tabaquismo; así mismo se quiso saber sobre el conocimiento que han adquirido durante la universidad en cuanto a las patologías oculares asociadas al tabaco. Resultados: La tasa de participación del estudio fue del 85%. Las mujeres que participaron en el estudio fueron el 77,6 %, los hombres el 22,3%. La edad promedio de los estudiantes que participaron en el estudio fue de 20 ± 3,2 años. El estudio reporta que fuman 18 (39.1%) hombres y 28 (60.9%) mujeres. De los 114 estudiantes que respondieron haber probado el cigarrillo, 48 (42.1%) siendo mayoría dijeron haberlo hecho a los 16 a 17 años. Para 178 (92.7%) estudiantes es importante que en la historia clínica de optometría se encuentre el ítem de si el paciente es fumador. Conclusión: La mayoría de estudiantes fumadores, desean dejar de fumar dentro de los próximos 30 días y 6 meses, es destacable el mayor porcentaje de personas no fumadoras en cuanto al total de la muestra del estudio. Existe alta proporción de estudiantes que desconocen las patologías oculares asociadas al tabaquismo.

Abstract
Objectives: To identify the knowledge, attitudes and practices about smoking in students of optometry at Universidad El Bosque. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional, descriptive study, carried out by means of an anonymous and voluntary survey, given to 192 students of the El Bosque University of the Optometry program, the survey includes questions regarding the knowledge, attitudes and practices of Students in relation to smoking, also wanted to know about the knowledge they have acquired during the university regarding the ocular pathologies associated with tobacco. Results: The study participation rate was 85%. The women who participated in the study were 77.6%, the men 22.3%. The average age of students participating in the study was 20 ± 3.2 years. The study reports that 18 (39.1%) men and 28 (60.9%) women smoke. Of the 114 students who responded to have tried the cigarette, 48 (42.1%) being the majority said to have done it to the 16 to 17 years. For 178 (92.7%) students it is important that in the medical history of optometry the item is found if the patient is a smoker. Conclusion: The majority of students smokers, quit smoking within the next 30 days and 6 months, is remarkable the highest percentage of non-smokers in the total sample of the study. There is a high proportion of students who are unaware of the ocular pathologies associated with smoking.
